Scars

Fortunately, you have many different options when dealing with scars that can help minimize their appearance. Be patient and willing to try different options.

Remember, prevention and proper care is best whether treating a scar, wound or dealing with acne.

Scars occur when damage is done to the dermis, which lies beneath the top layer of skin, the epidermis. Damage done to the epidermis will usually heal without a scar.

Available treatments for scar minimization include:

  • surgical revision

  • laser treatments

  • injectable fillers

  • dermabrasion

  • chemical peels

  • topical creams

  • microneedling treatments

  • advanced facial skin treatments

TIPS TO MINIMIZE SCARRING:

  • The only thing really shown to help the healing process and minimize scarring, is keeping a wound moist and covered

  • Don’t pick the scab that is forming on the top, it will make the healing time longer and may result in a scar

  • Keep the area hydrated. Use a serum containing skin healing ingredients

  • Stay out of the sun as much as possible. Sun might cause that area to become discolored (hyperpigmentation)

ONCE THE WOUND/SCAR HAS HEALED, THERE ARE SEVERAL INGREDIENTS YOU CAN USE THAT WILL HELP TO REDUCE SCARRING. THESE INCLUDE:

  • Black seed oil: Rich in antioxidants, a natural source of vitamin A, B1, B2, B3 and has essential fatty acids. They help calm the skin, soothe and regenerate scar tissue

  • Olive Oil: Rich in antioxidants and a natural moisturizer. Massage onto area once a day

  • Coconut Oil: Contains lauric, caprylic, and capric acid which helps scars to fade as well as minimizes scar formation

  • Rosehip Oil: Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, it helps heal the skin and reduce scarring. Massage the oil onto the affected area once or twice a day

  • Turmeric: Turmeric roots have anti-inflammatory properties, that lead to an easier healing process for scar tissue. Also great for hyperpigmentation condition

  • Dilo Oil (Tamanu Oil): Full of antioxidants that help with sensitive, damaged skin. Relieve redness, flakiness, dryness. Works amazing for scars or stretch marks

  • Vit.A and Vit.C are excellent ingredients to use for scars as well
